Yamaha’s PWseries C2: Aiming to Transform Urban E-Bikes with Innovation

Yamaha, known for its innovations in motorcycles, has also been a pioneer in electric bicycles (e-bikes) for the past three decades. The company recently launched its latest e-bike motor system, the PWseries C2, designed for urban and commuter e-bikes that adhere to European regulations. This lightweight and approachable system builds on technology from the popular PW-CE motor range, delivering 10 percent more torque for improved street performance.

The PWseries C2 motor weighs no more than seven pounds (three kilograms), making it ideal for compact and lightweight urban e-bikes. It boasts 39 pound-feet (55 Newton-meters) of torque, providing ample power for climbing hills. Additionally, the motor features an Automatic Support Mode that adapts its assistance based on terrain and conditions. Riders can manually select from four assist levels: Eco+, Eco, Standard, and High, accessible via a mobile app or a bike-mounted controller.

The motor also includes a Walk Assist feature, automatically providing power at walking speeds, making it convenient for maneuvering in pedestrian zones. Yamaha ensures compatibility with all its displays and battery configurations, making it easy for existing Yamaha e-bikes to integrate the PWseries C2 system into new models.

Urban and commuter e-bikes represent a popular segment in the e-bike industry, and Yamaha’s latest motor aims to offer an efficient and adaptable solution for this market.
