Electrify America Transitions to Station-Specific Pricing Model and Introduces Idle Fees

Electrify America, a network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations created by the Volkswagen Group as part of its diesel-emissions cheating settlement, is changing its pricing structure for EV charging. Starting August 17, the company will move to station-specific pricing and introduce idle fees.

Currently, Electrify America charges either a set rate per kilowatt-hour (kWh) or based on the amount of time spent plugged in, depending on the state. The new pricing structure will vary by the location of the charging station, taking into account factors like local market conditions. This means prices could increase, decrease, or remain the same at different stations.

The company is also introducing idle fees to discourage drivers from leaving their vehicles plugged in after charging is complete. If a vehicle is not unplugged and moved within 10 minutes after charging, an additional fee of $0.40 per minute will apply.

Electrify America’s Pass+ membership, which offers a 25% discount on energy costs, will see its monthly fee increase from $4 to $7. The company has been making adjustments to its offerings to adapt to the evolving EV market, including adding Tesla connectors and responding to changes in the charging landscape.

These pricing changes reflect Electrify America’s efforts to optimize its charging network and align with industry trends and consumer behaviors.
